You've made it to the recipe for the best mashed potatoes that you've ever eaten. This recipe is another one of my experiments and you will see why. I thought about all the things that I would love in mashed potatoes, plopped it into the mix and what I was left with was a dish your friends and family will love. I make these all year round, but they're always a hit during the holidays.
Mashed potatoes are typically made with butter, milk, salt, and pepper, then whipped into oblivion, not these. I try to stay away from the mixer, only because I like my mashed potatoes not only creamy, but slightly lumpy, while still maintaining some of their potato consistency. If you mix them too much, they can become a starchy mess that tastes great, but the texture might be a little off. So, for this recipe, I highly suggest a masher rather than a mixer.
These potatoes pair well with Steak, Chicken, or simply stand alone. They are a very versatile dish, not only this, but if you find yourself with leftovers you can even turn them into Gnocchi.
So, the images of this don't entirely match the recipe simply because I only needed to make mashed potatoes for one person, me. So if it looks like you have more ingredients than the images, you would be correct!
Cut the Yukon Gold Potatoes into 1/4" slices, then toss them into boiling water for 15-25 minutes or until fork tender. Then toss them into a large mixing bowl.
Add the minced Garlic, Butter, Heavy Cream, Sour Cream, Montreal Steak Seasoning, and Smoked Gouda into the mixing bowl. Then mash with a potato masher to your liking. Personally, I leave them a little lumpy.
You may use any potato that you prefer. Russet Potatoes, Red Skin Potatoes, Yellow Potatoes, Fingerling Potatoes, you name it.
Absolutely, if you prefer more garlic flavor, add garlic until your heart's content.
You may use or add as many cheeses as you would like, but make sure you stick to cheeses that blend in rather than get stringy. Also use the cheese sparingly, I use only a small amount for flavor.
No, you may use any seasoning you like. I used Montreal Steak Seasoning simply because I pair a lot of my potatoes with beef and I love the flavor.
Below is a list of recipes that pair well with these delicious, mashed potatoes. If you follow each of these recipes, you will make a meal as beautiful and flavorful in the image above!
Mashed potatoes are amazing, especially when made well. I'm sure that there are other mashed potato recipes out there, but I love the way these ones taste. Sometimes I make variations of them for special occasions, but they typically will have similar ingredients. I paired this batch of mashed potatoes with a Sous Vide Steak, with Marinated Mushrooms and a Red Wine Reduction. Paired together, this was by far one of my tastiest dishes.

As a finishing touch, sprinkle with Smoked Paprika.
